If you have a lonely or bereaved piggy who would like a friend we may be able to help (subject to available single piggies we have in the rescue).
We sadly cannot offer residential 'piggy dating', due to lack of space, but we can offer boar dating and sow dating where your piggy spends the day with us. We often have a number of single boars and sows available for dating.
Bonding piggies is a careful and time consuming process, we work on personality and finding a friend that the piggy likes and wants to spend time with as opposed to just co-existing with. It is important that the piggies are compatible, so we let the piggy choose his/her new friend, after all it is them that will be living with the newbie!
If you are looking to pair your piggy they come along to us for the day. This gives me a good few hours to oversee any introductions and see the piggies through the 'acceptance' stage. You will receive an information sheet upon adoption explaining what to expect when you get home and observations you will need to do over the following few days.
We usually have a carefully selected piggy in mind to try bonding with, who we feel will be compatible with yours, if this didn't work we would have a second choice but will only try up to 2 potential friends in one visit so as not to stress the guinea pigs.
Of course, there is a chance that it might not work and there may be no match on the first visit so you would need to be prepared for that just in case. On those occasions we can arrange a second appointment. Due to the nature of bonding and the observation needed we can only arrange one piggy dating session each day, therefore at busy times (Saturdays) there may be a slight waiting list before we can arrange an appointment. We are available for appointments Monday-Saturday, subject to checking the diary.
If you would like to book your piggy in for boar/sow dating, please email with as much information as possible about your piggy including age, temperament etc. Please also let us know which days are best for you to bring your piggy along (usually around 10am) and collect (usually around 3pm).
We look forward to helping your piggy find a new friend.
